Infection figures are rising rapidly, the crisis team is drawing a gloomy forecast. On Wednesday, the government will discuss new measures.
1,510 new Corona infections on Thursday, up from 1,848 the previous day. Hospital workload is still manageable: 396 covid patients are in the hospital, 142 in intensive care. But it won’t stay that way. According to the Corona Commission, the situation worsens dramatically in September. The commission provides data for government talks with countries and experts that restart next Wednesday.
On average, new infections will rise to 1,700. The commission expects 1,900 cases per day as early as Sept. 8.
Normal wards will have an average of 602 people on Sept. 15, and 760 in the worst case.
The healthcare system could reach its limit, especially in Upper Austria and Vorarlberg. The utilization of intensive care beds could reach a critical limit with up to 270 patients.
Above all, unvaccinated people occupy intensive care beds. The government should determine “in which high-risk settings access only for vaccinated people can be justified.” In plain language, the 1G rule could come in the fall.
